Feelings and emotions lie to us. The enemy wants us to ‘feel’ lonely, depressed, oppressed, unimportant, forgotten, rejected, and purposeless. The devil works through our fallen human nature called the flesh which has been imprinted with the devil’s own nature.
We must rise above the assault on our souls by speaking God’s word over ourselves—by faith—decreeing and declaring who we are in Christ and who He is in us. Get into agreement with God’s word—the truth. Your only recourse is to fall prey to the devil’s lies and subsequent feelings by agreeing with those thoughts as the enemy bombards our minds with his lies.
The holidays can be especially hard if we’ve lost loved ones, or if we are long distance from family. Those past memories set in motion and trigger us to be sad because of our situation. Our past is to be learned from, but not lived in—we must learn to move on because better things are ahead. (See Prov. 4:18)
Jesus is enough for us. He is ever-present with us, for us, and walking through everything in our lives with us. Turn to Him, not from Him in times of trouble thinking that you need to dig yourself out of the hole you’re in by trying to do it yourself. Independence from God never turns out well.
God is omniscient: He knows all things and has infinite awareness of you and your situation.
God is omnipresent: He is present in all places at all times.
God is omnipotent: He has unlimited and absolute authority, influence, and power.
God is all these things personally for us unless we decide to limit Him by our unbelief.
Align with God—how does He want you to see, think, and feel? Joy and hope are not only feelings, but a state of being by the power of the Holy Spirit as you depend on Him. (See Pslams 16:11, Romans 15:13)
Pursue God’s dreams, not our own. If we think He is only about fulfilling our own dreams, we will live frustrated. We need to see that we are alive to fulfill His dreams, which move us into His purposes and our amazement, realizing that ultimately, He does give us the desires of our hearts! (See Psalms 37:4, Phil. 2:21, Phil. 2:13)
